چکیده

There are several applications and fundamental research areas which require the detection of VUV light at cryogenic temperatures. For these applications we have developed and successfully tested special designs of gaseous detectors with solid photocathodes able to operate at low temperatures: sealed gaseous detectors with MgF2 windows and windowless detectors. We have experimentally demonstrated, that both primary and secondary (due to the avalanche multiplication inside liquids) scintillation lights could be recorded by photosensitive gaseous detectors. The results of this work may allow one to significantly improve the operation of some noble liquid gas TPCs. Presented at X Vienna Conference on Instrumentation Vienna, February 2004

High-gain DC-mode operated Gaseous Photomultipliers for the visible spectral range

We shortly describe recent progress in photon detectors combining bi-alkali photocathodes and cascaded patterned gas-avalanche electron multipliers. It permitted the development and the first feasibility demonstration of high-gain gaseous photomultipliers sensitive in the visible spectral range, operated in DC mode with single-photon sensitivity.

Aging in gaseous photodetectors

This paper describes the present status of aging studies in various photosensitive detectors. New experimental data are presented on aging of trimethylamine (TMA) and ethylferrocene (EF) photosensitive vapors as well as on CsI and SbCs photocathodes. A new explanation of the aging process for CsI photocathodes based on solid –state physics theory is given. Finally, based on our studies, a gener...

ICFA Instrumentation Bulletin SOLID AND VAPOUR PHASE UV PHOTOCATHODES FOR GASEOUS DETECTORS

We measured the relative quantum efficiency of four organic materials: tetrathiafulvalene and bis(cyclopentadienyl)magnesium in the solid phase and t-butylferrocene and n-butylferrocene in the vapour phase. The measurements were performed in the wavelength range of 150-220 nm. We also present a new quantum efficiency measurement of ethylferrocene. The three ferrocene derivatives exhibit relativ...

Single Electron Detection with GEM

Sensitivity to single electrons is requested in detectors based on the electron counting technique, measuring very low radiation-deposited energies. It is also required in novel large-area gaseous photomultipliers, employing solid photocathodes and gaseous electron multipliers. The Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) has been considered for these applications, and we report on its properties when ope...

Developing a software for simulation of gaseous detectors with Monte carlo method in c++ programming language

In this paper we consider a gaseous detector and supposed, because of pass of an ionizing radiation, an electron created inside it. By numerical simulation with monte carlo method and concluding the impacts, scatterings and creation of secondary electrons, we find the trajectory of initial and secondary electrons. Dependence of number of secondary electrons to applied electrical field is invest...
